Kathie Kline began working with clay in 1973, taking classes over the years in Berkeley, California, Corvallis, Oregon, and Asheville, North Carolina. Her formal training began in 2004 at Haywood Community College's Professional Craft Program in Clyde, North Carolina. In 2007, she began Centerpoint Clay Studio after the construction of her pottery studio in their backyard.
Robert Kline, a family physician at Community Family Practice in Asheville, North Carolina, has long been intrigued by woodturning. When trees were cut down to make space for Kathie's studio, he met a woodturner who transformed the cherry and maple trees into beautiful bowls. Within a year, Robert had set up his own shop in their basement and was making bowls for family members and friends. By 2009, he and Kathie were selling together at their home shows and they changed the business name to Centerpoint Studios.
Kyle J. Carpenter came to Centerpoint Studios in 2009 after graduating from Warren Wilson College. In addition to being an emerging local potter, he became Centerpoint Studios' Facilities Manager in 2012.
